Introduction to Three Types of Comm100 Chat Buttons

Comm100 Live Chat provides three types of chat buttons: Adaptive, Image, and Text Link. The settings available for each type of chat button vary. This article introduces the three types of chat buttons and the available customizations for each of them.

Note: To learn how to customize your chat button, see this article.

Adaptive Chat Button

The adaptive chat button is the default type of chat button for all sites. It is an icon which has mouse-over animations and adjusts automatically in size and layout to fit mobile screens. For an adaptive chat button, you can customize its color, icon, and the position for its desktop and mobile view.

  • The color and icon applies to both desktop and mobile view.
  • The position for desktop and mobile view can be customized separately.

Image Chat Button

Image chat button is an image which can contain text overlay. There are two types of Image buttons: Floating Image Button and Static Image Button.

Note: For the image type chat button, Comm100 provides a gallery for you to choose from, and also allows you to upload your own image. If you want to use your own image, you need to upload both online button and offline button images.
  • Floating Image Button
The chat button floats over the webpage when your website visitors scroll up or down. For a floating image button, you can customize the image and position for desktop view and mobile view separately.
    • For desktop view, you can choose an image from the gallery or upload your own image.
    • For mobile view, you can define text overlay on a background color or upload your own image. The text overlay image button floats over the bottom middle over the mobile screen, and the position of an uploaded image button can be customized.
Note:  If you choose the Text type for mobile view and leave the Online text and Offline text fields empty, the chat button will be hidden on mobile websites. You can set it up when you don’t want your visitors to request a chat from mobile devices.

  • Static Image Button
The chat button stays at a fixed position on your webpage, which can disappear when visitors scrolls up or down the webpage. The position of a static chat button depends on where you place the Live Chat installation code in your website code. For a static image button, you can choose the image from the gallery or upload your own image. The image button applies to both desktop and mobile view.

Text Link Chat Button

The chat button appears as a text hyperlink on the webpage. The position of a text link chat button depends on where you place the Live Chat installation code in your website code. You can define the content for your text link chat button. The text hyperlink applies to both desktop and mobile view.

Note:  If you choose the Text Link type of chat button and leave the Text Content field empty, no chat button appears on your website.
